  • Wyoming Dept of Education Awards Desert View Elementary "Charlie Cart" mobile cooking station

Students at Desert View Elementary will soon begin to integrate math, science and English language arts standards into real world cooking situations.  Our Charlie Cart will be used by students in after school, summer, and during the school day activities at all grade levels.  Our third grade students were the first to work in this station learning about fractions as they made pancakes last week.  Our first after school cooking class is full and will begin in early March and includes students from all grade levels.  Look for our cart displayed at upcoming Fitness Nights and our annual Science Fair.

  • Action for Healthy Kids Grant award

Desert View Elementary is a proud recipient of a $1000 grant from Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) for the 2016-17 school year.  The Game On Grant, provided through funding by GoGo SqueeZ as part of a broader partnership with AFHK, is focused on improving students' access to physical activity opportunities, nutrition education and healthy snacking in schools.  Desert View used this grant to purchase new outside playground equipment (balls, hula hoops, jump ropes, etc.) to increase physical activity during recess.  In addition, a bar graph was created in the cafeteria as an incentive to students to try foods from our USDA Fresh Fruits and Veggies program.  Classes with the highest number of students who try each type of produce can win extra recess time each week.  Students will also participate in a variety of activities to promote "Healthy Kids Week" in April.
