Welcome to a new school year for Desert View Elementary! The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 19. All grade levels at Desert View start at 7:50 am and end at 3:05 pm. Adult supervision on the playground is provided starting at 7:35 am, please do not drop students off before that time.

Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During the open house, you will be able to tour the school, meet your child’s teacher and other staff, update student information, pay into your child’s lunch account, apply for free/reduced lunches, and receive information regarding transportation. 

We will also be grilling up hotdogs for all to enjoy! Thank you to the DVE PTO for donating for our Open House dinner. Our amazing PTO will also have representation there to talk about the organization and get those interested signed up as members. 

Please also bring your government-issued ID so we can get you entered into our school safety system, RAPTOR.

Prior to the first day of school, please complete the following survey as it will provide us valuable building-level information regarding transportation for your student for both the first day of school and the remainder of the school year. The form also addresses photo/video and holiday preferences. We will have computers available at the Open House if you need to complete it then. 

Please make sure your student has money in his/her lunch account prior to the start of the school year or complete a confidential application for free and reduced lunch. Breakfast is offered twice in the morning—first breakfast will be served BEFORE school starts each day (starting as early as 7:35) and second chance breakfast/snack time is mid-morning. All grade levels will break for the second chance breakfast/snack time; during this time, students are welcome to purchase school food, eat a healthy snack they bring from home, or choose not to eat. Students who receive free meals receive only one free breakfast per day. 

Here are important resources available to you in preparation for the school year:

  • Here is the website for Nutrition Services. Through this you can apply for Free and Reduced Lunch, add money to your student’s account, access the daily menus, and download an app for easy use. https://sweetwater1nutrition.com/index.php?sid=1671043599244&page=menus 

    • Free and Reduced Lunch: In addition to providing discounted and free meals for students, qualifying applications also help determine additional funds provided to our school through our Title I school status. The district also has a home internet assistance program available, but the Free and Reduced Lunch application must be completed in order to be considered for internet assistance at home. This is completely confidential–no one will be able to tell if your student is receiving free or reduced lunch. 

  • Bus routes are available at https://www.sweetwater1.org/bus-routes on the school district website. Please make sure you join the transportation group on ParentSquare as well. Transportation sends updates on route delays and the like through ParentSquare.

  • For RETURNING students only, please update student registration in PowerSchool at this link. https://sweetwater1.powerschool.com/public/home.html  We will be able to help at Open House as well. 

In addition to seeing you at the open house, I look forward to seeing you all on the first day of school. We will have all staff outside to help guide your student to the correct drop-off spot/teacher location. If you plan to get out of your car, please park in the lot and walk to the front of the school. Please leave the circle drive open for cars that are dropping students and driving through. Over the years, we have found it is easiest on students for them to separate from parents at drop-off outside the school, so parents will not go into the school to take students to their classrooms on the first day.
